Longview High School senior Madeline Claire Duvall has been recognized by the Aaron Burleson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as the winner of the chapter's Good Citizen contest.
Each year the chapter sponsors a program for area high school students where a senior is commended as a D.A.R. Good Citizen. Those students have the option of participating in the Texas D.A.R. Scholarship Contest.
Six schools selected a student and most of these students elected to enter the state essay contest to try for the scholarship. This competition consisted of a timed essay written under faculty supervision from acquired knowledge about a specific topic. This year, the subject was 'our American heritage and our responsibility in preserving it.' The essay counted for up to 30 points in the student's score and up to 70 points were graded on school and community activities.
The Good Citizen students from this area were given certificates, pins and a scholarship check from the D.A.R. chapter on March 21 in the presence of parents, counselors and organization members. After the presentations, there was a reception at the Longview Public Library where the meeting was held. Regent of the chapter, Freida Frost, presided over the activities.
Other recipients of Good Citizen awards included Ethan William Ender of Spring Hill High School, Callie Marie Crawford of White Oak High School, Blake Alexandra Jackson of Hallsville High School, Aubrey Faith Zastoupil of Pine Tree High School, and Hailey Nicole Kennair of New Diana High School.
