Lobo football practice gets underway this week, as does volleyball and other extracurricular programs... but varsity tennis and volleyball teams have already begun non-district competition.
Tourney host Lady Lobos win twice (ETVarsity.com)
Host team Longview opened pool play with wins over Palestine (25-16, 25-13) and Pleasant Grove (25-17, 25-18) on Thursday at the Lady Lobo News's Volleyball Tournament.
Morgan Vance had 10 assists and an ace in the win over Palestine. Taisha Mackey added eight kills, Malaika Pencheon five kills, Destiny McAfee five kills, a block and four digs, Kennedy Eynon two kills, five assists, a block and an ace, and Manecia Darden five kills and three aces.
Against Pleasant Grove, Eynon had six kills, seven assists and a block, Pencheon six kills, a block and an ace, McAfee three kills and three blocks, Mackey three kills and a block, Brooke Goynes seven digs and Vance 12 assists and four aces.

Longview tennis opens season with wins (ETVarsity.com)
TYLER — The Longview High School tennis team opened the season with wins over Midlothian and Lindale — both by 11-8 scores.
Simran Kortikere, Gaurav Singh, Mathew Nguyen all went 4-0 on the day for Longview, which will take on Whitehouse at home on Tuesday.

King looks to build on productive summer for Lobos (ETVarsity.com)
Monday's session kicks off a few weeks of work, full of questions to be answered, for Longview.
'I thought we had a really good summer, a productive one, that followed a decent spring,' said Lobo head football coach John King. 'We had at least 175 a day throughout the summer. We had a few thin weeks, but it was solid throughout.'
Longview's defense grabbed the attention through the spring and it paired with the Lobo offense in a return trip to the state 7-on-7 tournament. It's been one of growing for a youthful Mean Green unit from a year ago.

Special teams, backfield strong as two-a-days begin (ETVarsity.com)
A year ago, head coach John King and the Lobos entered the season knowing the potential hey had in the special teams department but were breaking in all four key spots – kicker, punter, snapper and holder.
That’s not the case this season.
Chris Kessler saw full-time duties a year ago and is joined by junior JK Martin. Both have spent the summer hitting camps all over the place.
The Lobos are also tasked with replacing two 1,000-yard rushers ago but have four players back that saw varsity action a year ago.
