Thanksgiving food drives have launched at some LISD campuses. Until Friday, Nov. 22, the participating campuses will be welcoming donations. The location that receives the most food (per capita) will be awarded the “Golden Turkey” from the City of Longview.

The food drive will benefit Longview Community Ministries, Salvation Army, Newgate Mission, and Caring and Sharing. Donation information can be found at LongviewThanksgiving.com. Those agencies help collect applications from more than 1,000 needy families, and then are distributed as Thanksgiving Food Boxes the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Any remaining food will be distributed to those agencies as part of their food ministries to the public.

Participating campuses include; JL Everhart Elementary, Foster Middle School, Forest Park Middle School, Judson STEAM Academy, Bramlette STEAM Academy, Ned E. Williams STEAM Elementary, Ware ETMA and Longview High School.

Longview ISD will come by each participating campus to pick up the food donations and get those to the City of Longview. For any student groups or individuals looking for community service hours, the City of Longview Food Drive collection date will be Monday, Nov. 25, from 2-5 p.m at Maude Cobb, when all items will be collected and sorted.

Montessori, through Communities in Schools, has partnered with Community Out-Reach Mission to do a canned food drive for the holidays. The mission is to help teach children community service by providing them a chance to help out in the community. Community Out-Reach Mission has served Longview for over 30 years by providing services such as food, clothing, and utility assistance. Please show your support by donating any non-perishable can good items that you can. Cans will be accepted up until Nov. 22. Feel free to send your child to school with the cans. Be sure to label the bag with your child’s hallway color. The hall that brings the most cans will win a free dress day!
