For those who may not be able to spend time with their family this Thanksgiving, District 3 Councilman Wray Wade is hosting a FREE community event at Broughton Recreation Center.
“Thanksgiving has always been about bringing the family together and friends and neighbors to celebrate all of the things that we are thankful for. In Longview…and South Longview we have a lot to celebrate,” Wade, a Lobo grad, said.
“I also realize that not everyone has family nearby and some families may have to reallocate money to other areas and putting together a full Thanksgiving feast may not be possible and I want to provide an opportunity so that everyone has a warm meal, friendly company and a great place to enjoy the holidays.”
Along with the delicious food that Wade will be providing for the public there will also be health service information there, housing information, inspirational speakers, musical guests and more. Wade is using his councilman stipend to pay for the Thanksgiving meal.
“There will be food served, but it’s also a community-wide event. You do not have to live in District 3 or South Longview in order to come,” Wade said. “I would really love to try and reach out to the families of students of LISD and those who might be a bit too proud to ask for help; that they know that they are welcome to come to this event.”
Longview Mayor Andy Mack, a fellow LHS alum with the same passion for community service, praised Wade’s initiative and “solid commitment to giving back.”
“Anyone who knows Wray Wade is not at all surprised by the heart for Longview he shows in service to his community,” he said. “I am so thankful for the wonderful example of servant-leadership he shows in word and deed to leave a lasting positive legacy for — not just his own district — but the entire City of Longview.”
Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox echoed Mack’s sentiment, adding that, “it is our strong partnerships with local leaders like Councilman Wade that make the Longview ISD community such a strong one.”
