Continuing the tradition of excellence in the Big Green Marching Machine will be new Longview ISD Director of Bands Tommy Moore.
Moore began his new duties immediately upon being unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees on June 4.
An award-winning band director in East Texas for more than 30 years, Moore has been Assistant Band Director at Longview High since coming from Henderson ISD in 2016.
'I am so honored that the Longview ISD community and staff has given me the opportunity to lead one the nation's finest military bands,' Moore said. 'I have been a fan of the Lobo Band since I was a high school band member in Carthage and I am looking forward to working alongside the finest administration, staff, and parents to keep the band strong.'
Moore was band director at Foster Middle School from 2001 to 2005 before leaving LISD to take over at Henderson ISD. During his time at HHS, Moore's bands won numerous sweepstakes, National Association of Military Marching Band First Division ratings and First in Class awards, state honor band area and state recognition earnings, and state marching band honors.
Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox said the district cast a wide net in trying to find the right person for the job, before deciding that the best candidate was already on staff.
'We looked at numerous excellent candidates from across East Texas and the state, but Tommy Moore met or exceeded every criteria we looked at, while also providing very important continuity in the program,' he said. 'With someone like Tommy Moore (as Director of Bands) we can count on leadership that will not just rest on the laurels of past accomplishments, but will continue to push our students to excel and mentor the next generation of music educators.'
