The entire Longview ISD community is invited to help feed local children, while enjoying a festive holiday snack.
Orders for the freshly-shelled gourmet pecans can be placed at any LISD campus. The orders for Thanksgiving delivery will be through Nov. 4, and through Dec 2 for the Christmas delivery. All proceeds from sales will benefit the district's BackPack Program.
The program started at the former McClure Magnet School of International Studies with the help of the Longview Rotary Club. Included in the backpacks are canned meats and vegetables as well as cereal packages, fruit cups, granola bars, juice boxes, crackers and other nonperishable snacks and food items. The district has since expanded the program through community donations, including contributions from faculty and staff.
Each year nearly 1,000 children are served by the program.
