LISD monitoring weather conditions

District officials are currently monitoring weather changes that may occur tomorrow due to the possibility of some frozen precipitation or snow flurries. While Longview ISD does not anticipate any changes to Friday's schedule will be needed, the weather is expected to be quite cold and windy.

'The safety of students and staff will always be top priority when we are faced with decisions about school closings due to weather,' said Dennis Williams, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative and Pupil Services.

Below is our process for determining school closings or early dismissals, and the factors considered in making a decision that alters the normal school schedule:

• Information on road conditions and whether buses/cars can safely travel.
• The rate and expected duration of precipitation.
• The existing accumulation of snow or ice.
• Parking lot and sidewalk conditions.
• Weather predictions.

When changes to the normal school schedule occur, Longview ISD will use the SchoolMessenger system to notify families by call, email, and/or text. The district will also post information on our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts, in addition to notifying local media outlets.
