Principal William Houff is challenging students at Judson Middle School to write an essay about what question they would ask a prominent African-American.
“Black History Month is a time to honor the many African-Americans who have had an impact on our nation's history,' Houff said. 'So we're inviting our students to think about a famous African-American, whether alive or dead, and write an essay about what question they would ask them, and why.'
Houff said the contest has a dual purpose: to encourage his students to reflect on the countless contributions made by great African-Americans, as well as foster excitement for the school's Black History Program at 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
'The essays are due Wednesday, at which time they will be judged by campus staff,' he said. 'The winning essay will be announced and read at the program.'
