It was a moment to honor some extremely important members of the Longview ISD family.

The Longview ISD Foundation celebrated Mike Gipson (LISD Maintenance Supervisor), Wesley Dorsett (LHS Interact Club sponsor) and the Interact Club.

Foundation director Kay Ray recognized the hard-working Longview ISD employees during the Board of Trustees regular meeting Monday, Nov. 11th.

Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox echoed Miss Kay's sentiments, adding that it is quality individuals like Mr. Gipson and Coach Dorsett, 'who make Longview ISD what it is.'

'We are so appreciative of the countless contributions these men make for our students, staff, and entire community,' he said.

AAON property purchase

The board later approved the sale of 2 acres of property adjacent to Playing for Keeps, located at 510 Martin Luther King Blvd., to AAON Coil Products of Longview.

AAON was the only bidder, and the property was sold for $22,651.

LISD Chief Financial Officer Joey Jones said AAON approached the district concerning the property earlier this year.

'This proposed purchase is in conjunction with a planned expansion by AAON,' he added.

The board also heard a financial report and might take future action on using $15 million in the reserve fund of the budget to pay down the 2008 bond.

No action was taken on the measure Monday night, but Jones informed board members that is the current plan.

The matter will brought back to the board for discussion and possible approval during a regular meeting in January or February.
