Longview ISD Board of Trustees thanked departing member Dr. Mark Camp during Monday night's regular meeting, and welcomed newly-elected Place 1 representative Michael Tubb.

Board members each, in turn, expressed sincere appreciation for Dr. Camp's service to the district and leadership.

Dr. Camp spoke from the dais, wishing his successor well, and thanking the community for entrusting him with making decisions on behalf of the public since being elected in 2012.

'I just want to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to students, employees, district residents, area businesses, and volunteers who make Longview ISD such an exceptional school district,' he said. 'It has been my pleasure to serve you, and I wish you all continued success in the future.'

Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox praised Dr. Camp's tenure for his 'years of commitment to our students and education professionals.'

'It has been a pleasure to work with Dr. Mark Camp these past six years,' he said. 'Mark always placed the students and employees of LISD first in every consideration and decision he made.'

Wilcox said he was looking forward to working with Mr. Tubb, and expressed enthusiasm 'for the obvious passion and energy he brings to serving on this board and the Longview ISD community.'

Place 3 incumbent Dr. Chris Mack was unopposed and will serve another three-year term on the board. Place 7 incumbent Dr. Troy Simmons defeated challenger LaRaslum 'Roz' Williams and will also serve another three-year term.

Board members administered the oath of office to Tubb, Mack, and Simmons, before reorganizing officers for the coming term.

Officers for the LISD trustees will be Mrs. Virginia Northcutt, board president; Mrs. Shan Bauer, vice president; Dr. Chris Mack, secretary; and Michael Tubb, vice secretary.
