The school year is far from over, but next year's schedule is now in place. Classes will begin Aug. 27, 2018 and end May 31, 2019.
Important dates for next school year include:
• Aug. 27 – First day for students
• Sept. 3 – Labor Day (observed)
• Nov. 19-23 – Thanksgiving Break
• Dec. 24-Jan. 4 – Winter Break
• Jan. 21 – Dr. Martin Luther King Day (observed)
• March 11-15 – Spring Break
• April 19 – Good Friday (observed)
• May 27 – Memorial Day (observed)
• May 31 – Final day of school
• June 3, 4 – Bad weather makeup days (if needed)
Longview ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2018-19 District Calendar during their Dec. 11 regular meeting.
Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox said state legislation prevents schools from starting prior to the fourth Monday in August.
'Obviously, we want to be sensitive to family schedules, especially during the holiday months, but we have limited flexibility due to the legislature,' he said. 'That said, we feel like this calendar provides the most accommodation for our students, staff, and their families.'
