Longview Independent School District is saddened by the loss of venerable Latin teacher Charles M. Parsons.

Mr. Parsons died Wednesday, May 18 after suffering a heart attack during the International Baccalaureate hooding ceremony at The Summit Club in Longview.

Tributes to Mr. Parsons poured out over social media, with numerous current and former students sharing fond memories of how he shaped their lives and education.

'Charles Parsons was one of the very special people at Longview High,' said Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox. 'The positive impact he made on generations cannot be quantified. It is a devastating loss for Longview ISD, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Parsons family during this difficult time.'

Hired by Longview ISD on Sept. 1, 1973, the death of Mr. Charles Parsons brings to a close a 46-year career as an educator, mentor, and leader.
