The East Texas Advanced Academies Board of Directors unanimously approved appointing longtime local educator Mrs. Ava Welge during their regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 9th.
Dr. Cynthia Wise, CEO of ETAA, said the board is pleased to be adding the former Longview ISD trustee.
'Mrs. Welge carries a rich background in education, leadership experience, and familiarity with the community in which we serve,' she said.
When asked about the appointment of Mrs. Welge, ETAA Board President Mr. Alan Amos stated, “We look forward to the experience that she brings to the board and greatly appreciate the time she volunteers to support the ETAA mission of providing the best possible education for the students of Longview ISD.”
Mrs. Welge served on the LISD Board of Trustees from 2017 to 2020 and retired from the district in 2016, where she finished her 40-year career in education. Beginning her time at LISD as a math teacher at Forest Park Middle School, Mrs. Welge was an educational diagnostician for 14 years. In that role, she helped children overcome a variety of learning challenges.
Active in the local community through the Rotary Club and Trinity Episcopal Church, Mrs. Welge and her husband Jack have two daughters, both of whom graduated from Longview High.
