In today's digital age, access to high-speed internet is a necessity, especially for students who require it for online learning. Unfortunately, not all families can afford to pay for internet access, placing their children at a disadvantage. That's why the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law created the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to provide eligible households with discounts on their internet bills and connected devices.

Longview Independent School District recognizes the importance of internet access and has taken proactive steps to ensure that every student in the district has access to high-speed internet. As a Community Eligibility Provision District, every student in Longview ISD is eligible for ACP benefits.

Mrs. Phyllis Dozier, LISD Director of Child Nutrition, said the program benefits not only students, but also their parents and the district as a whole.

"With approximately 87 percent of Longview ISD students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches, many families struggle to afford internet access," she said. "The ACP program, however, provides eligible households with a discount of up to $30 per month off their internet bills, as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 off an eligible connected device like a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet."

Furthermore, households can get high-speed internet without paying a dime by choosing a fully covered internet plan. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to access internet resources for their children's education.

Longview ISD actively encourages families to utilize the ACP program. The district is taking steps to inform families of their eligibility and the benefits of the program. Families interested in applying for the ACP can learn more and apply at GetInternet.gov

The application process requires documentation, such as an official, individualized letter from the CEP school stating that the student is enrolled at a CEP-participating school, including the student's name, relevant school year, name and address of the school, and school contact information.

LISD Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox said the district's support of the Community Eligibility Provision and the ACP program, "is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed in school."

"By actively encouraging families to utilize this great resource and opportunity, Longview ISD is going above and beyond to provide equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status," he said.
