Superintendent's Welcome

Welcome to the Longview Independent School District!

Longview ISD is a diverse district with about 8,600 students and some 1,400 staff members. Our richly diverse student population reflects our wonderful city and the east Texas area in general. We are proud to be among the few U.S. districts to offer the esteemed International Baccalaureate Programme. LISD also offers the Montessori program for some of our younger students, and dual college credit courses for our high school students. We are an academically acceptable school district, with one campus, Hudson PEP, receiving Exemplary status for more than 10 consecutive years. In addition to this, Texas Monthly magazine named Hudson PEP as one of the best elementary schools in Texas.

Offering the most extensive course selection opportunities in East Texas, Longview High School is the leader in advanced courses. LHS offers more Pre-AP and Advanced Placement courses than other school in the area. The large number of students earning college credit attests to the courses' rigor. An increasing number of National Merit scholars, GLOBE scholars, and Advanced Placement Scholars, and a long-term winning tradition in University Interscholastic League competition offer further evidence of quality curriculum and instruction at LHS. In addition, the successful Academic Decathlon Team confirms the school's emphasis on academics.

Longview ISD believes in excellence for all, one child at a time. We have a high focus on academic achievement, as well as building partnerships with our community. We are truly working to provide a quality education which serves all students in the Longview area. The Longview ISD web site seeks to provide you with the most up to date information for our district. Whether if you are a parent, current staff member, student, prospective employee, community member, or considering a move to Longview, we hope you find the information helpful. If you cannot find the information you are looking for, please contact us at aholland@lisd.org

Sylverlene Williams Honored at Regional Awards Ceremony

Sylverlene Williams Honored at Regional Awards Ceremony The dedication of today's educators is an inspiration to others. The 2016 Regional Awards Ceremony highlighted the high level of responsibility that educators have in providing the time and commitment to serving their students, their district, and their communities.

Sylverlene Williams, the teacher at Forest Park Middle School, is no exception. The "Secondary Teacher of the Year" honoree from Longview ISD was noted from the words written in her "Teacher of the Year" essay:

"Teaching is a humbling experience with the greatest challenges, but it comes with the sweetest rewards," stated Williams.

Williams has been with Longview ISD for seven years; five of which were spent teaching sixth grade English Language Arts.

COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE 2016 NATIONAL MERIT® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Longview High School acknowledged that Stephen Jayakar, Trevor O’Connor and Truman Thompson were named Commended Students in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, were presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students are placed in the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

"The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
