Superintendent's Welcome

Welcome to the Longview Independent School District!

Longview ISD is a diverse district with more than 8,400 students and some 1,400 staff members. Our richly diverse student population reflects our wonderful city and the east Texas area in general. We are proud to be among the few U.S. districts to offer the esteemed International Baccalaureate Programme. LISD also offers the Montessori program for some of our younger students, and dual college credit courses for our high school students. We are an academically acceptable school district, with one campus, Hudson PEP, receiving Exemplary status for more than 10 consecutive years. In addition to this, Texas Monthly magazine named Hudson PEP as one of the best elementary schools in Texas.

Offering the most extensive course selection opportunities in East Texas, Longview High School is the leader in advanced courses. LHS offers more Pre-AP and Advanced Placement courses than other school in the area. The large number of students earning college credit attests to the courses' rigor. An increasing number of National Merit scholars, GLOBE scholars, and Advanced Placement Scholars, and a long-term winning tradition in University Interscholastic League competition offer further evidence of quality curriculum and instruction at LHS. In addition, the successful Academic Decathlon Team confirms the school's emphasis on academics.

Longview ISD believes in excellence for all, one child at a time. We have a high focus on academic achievement, as well as building partnerships with our community. We are truly working to provide a quality education which serves all students in the Longview area. 	Board of Trustees target Wilcox as Longview ISD's interim superintendent The Longview ISD Board of Trustees will seek to hire former Superintendent Dr. James E. Wilcox to fill his old role – as an interim.
	Hudson PEP accepting applications for 2012-13 Hudson PEP is a districtwide school in Longview ISD for students who perform in the average to above average range in grades 1-5.

	Superintendent announces retirement; Pinewood Park sold Longview ISD Superintendent Dr. James E. Wilcox on Monday tendered his notice of retirement to the district’s board of trustees. It will take effect on December 31.
	Judson Middle School Choir earns 25 All Region seats Twenty-five Judson Middle School Choir students on Oct. 8 were selected as members of the All-Region Choir. They performed in concert at the University of Texas at Tyler on Nov. 12.
	Forest Park students take visitors on trip around the world (Longview News-Journal) With their passports stamped from every continent and numerous countries, more than 1,000 people from Longview took a trip around the world Tuesday night.
	Longview ISD Foundation grant creates deeper pool of knowledge at Hudson PEP (Longview News-Journal) With the Foundation's help, Hudson PEP students are able to study aquatic life living in their very own pond.
	Ware Elementary students learn civic pride, leadership through service project (Longview News-Journal) Service projects will include participating in a citywide cleanup in the spring and helping with Coats for Kids in November, Perez said. In the past, Ware students have cleaned up Hinsley Park on U.S. 259. With Coats for Kids, the students assist families that come to Broughton Recreation Center in finding coats and other winter items for their children.
	Longview ISD publishes 9 student-authored books (Longview News-Journal) As part of the International Baccalaureate program, the district released nine books written by Longview’s elementary school students. The books will be available for IB classrooms worldwide as part of the 15 Days of Caring curriculum, which also was produced by Longview ISD.
