Tue Feb 12, 2019

Parents and students interested in learning more about Longview ISD's International Baccalaureate program are invited to attend an information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in the Little Theater at Longview High School.

Linda Buie, the high school's dean of instruction, will outline the program requirements, its features and advantages, the application and selection process, as well as the curriculum.

Recognized worldwide, the IB program is a demanding college preparatory curriculum in the classical liberal arts.

Buie said LISD is one of the only districts in the country that offers an IB program from elementary through high school.

"What's more, most parents in Texas have to pay for the same opportunity," she said. "So not only do we offer IB from elementary through graduation, but we offer it free of charge to any Longview student who wants to take it."

Longview High School graduated its first IB seniors in 2011 and Buie said the program continues to grow each year.

"If you look at the names of these IB graduates, and look at the things they're doing now, it's really quite remarkable," she said. "These young people are going to change the world."
