Former Carthage ISD superintendent Mr. John Wink has been hired as Coordinator of Policy and New Schools for Longview ISD.

The Longview ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved hiring Mr. Wink during their Feb. 8th regular meeting.

In his new role, Mr. Wink will support the Office of Innovation and Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Craig Coleman in providing partner and district staff with the training, support, and policy guidance necessary to promote strong compliance and performance by partner schools.

Mr. Wink has been in education for over two decades in various roles, including classroom teacher, assistant principal and principal. He began his career in public education as a choir teacher for Longview.

After working in Hallsville ISD for nine years as a campus administrator, Mr. Wink was hired as principal at Gilmer Elementary School in 2011, but not before district officials noted all 280 seniors had passed their state assessments and would get to graduate — for the first time in the school’s history. Later, Mr. Wink worked as assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction at Tatum ISD (from 2014 to 2016), before holding the top position at Carthage ISD from 2018 until 2020.

In addition to his career in public education, Mr. Wink is a noted author and education consultant, focusing on helping school districts create support systems for teacher success.

Dr-James-Wilcox-2020-MUGSHOTSuperintendent Dr. James Wilcox said he has been familiar with Mr. Wink's work and reputation for a number of years, and when the administration saw the opportunity to fill an important role with such a qualified applicant, "We jumped on it."

"John Wink brings a variety of skills and abilities that will strengthen our Office of Innovation," he said. "We're glad to add someone of his caliber and background to our administrative team."
