Lobo Webster hits JT.jpgThe Friday night lights will shine even brighter at Lobo Stadium this week as two of the top teams in East Texas will fight for the inside track to a district title.

Longview hosts John Tyler 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 in a rivalry game with not just bragging rights up for grabs, but an early claim for the District 11-6A championship. Lobos vs. Lions looks to bring considerable media attention as well, being this week's Dave Campbell's Texas Football/Fox Sports Southwest Game of the Week and will be a part of the Great American Rivalry Series. It's also the "game of the week" for several local media outlets. Live tweeting of the game will be available at the district's official Twitter account @longviewisd.

The game features some of the best athletes in sister cities Longview and Tyler, neighboring counties Gregg and Smith, in a match-up dating back to 1912. While the Lobos carry a 46-36-7 all-time series lead (and an 11-2 record against John Tyler since 2001), the last four games have been split evenly at 2-2.

Longview (6-1, 4-0) has won six consecutive games since a 35-24 season-opening loss to Lufkin, and is currently all alone in first place of 11-6A. The only loss for John Tyler (6-1, 3-1) came in the district opener to Rockwall, which rallied from a 17-point, third-quarter deficit to stun the Lions, 59-58.
