Trustees recognized some of its best and brightest education professionals during Monday's regular board meeting.
2016's campus Teachers of the Year include Emily Hill (Bramlette), Laura Vermillion (Hudson PEP), Angelina Byrd (Johnston-McQueen), Kori Thompson (Everhart), Sharon Collins (Ned E. Williams), Israel Vazquez (South Ward), Cangelya Birdsong (Ware), Kiffany Gatson (Forest Park), Lisa Mize (Foster), Mindy Holley (Judson), Nancy Coots (Longview High), and Pamela Anthony (Early Graduate High).
Campus Teachers of the Year are chosen during the latter part of each school year by their principals and professional colleagues. A panel of former honorees and district staff then selects district elementary and secondary winners based on essay submissions.
LISD Superintendent Dr. James Wilcox said the honorees "show the high caliber of teachers we have in our district."
"An important part of this honor is the fact that these selections are made by their peers," she said. "These individuals are each outstanding education professionals, whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues, and our entire community."
