The weather is starting to cool off but the sporting season is just warming up, with a variety of youth sports competitions and fundraisers set for the month of October.


  • Punt, Pass & Kick is set for Oct. 22 at Judson Middle School's football stadium. The annual free event features local competition at 10 a.m. and sectional finals at noon.

Check-in is 9 a.m. and all athletes must participate in the local competition to determine if they make the sectional competition. Each participant will have one punt, one pass and one kick. Scores will be determined on distance and accuracy for the three events, with winners determined by the highest cumulative score.

Soft-soled sneakers only (no football shoes, cleats or turf shoes).

The event is open to boys and girls between the ages of 6-15 (age verification as of Dec. 31, 2016). Boys and girls compete separately in local competitions, with the top finisher in each of the five age groups (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15) advancing to sectional competition.

The top four finishers in each boys and girls age groups from the pool of sectional competition champions will advance to the Team Championship event staged before a Dallas Cowboys game.

The top four scorers in each of the boys and girls age groups from the pool of Team champions will advance to the National Finals at an NFL Playoff game.

 • The inaugural Lobo Baseball Golf Tournament is set for Oct. 22 at Wood Hollow Golf Club.

Entry fee is $75 per person, which includes green fee, cart and meal. The event will begin with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Cash prizes will be awarded for first through third place, closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt.

 • Registration for the PARD Adult Basketball League is due by Oct 21. Regular registration fees are $350, with an eight-game guarantee. Deadline for late registration ($375) is Nov. 11.

Leagues offered are men's, women's, men's industrial and men's church. Play begins on Nov. 28. There will be a two-week break Dec. 19-Jan. 8.

Practice gym rental is $30 per hour for full court.
