Mayor Andy Mack announced the winners of his annual scholarship during the May 9th City Council meeting, among them was Longview High School honor student Payton Schaap.

"This is the fourth year we've done this program, and each year it just keeps getting better and better," said Mayor Mack. "If these students are any indication of what the future holds for Longview, well, the future of our city looks very bright."

Payton was one of four graduating seniors from Longview, Pine Tree, Spring Hill, or Hallsville high schools.

The application includes a one-page essay on how you desire to make an impact on improving Longview.

Funds for the Mayor Mack Scholarship are paid for out of the Mayor’s annual stipend. Rather than take a salary, the mayor’s stipend is used to invest in students’ futures.

"It's just a small way to give back to the city I love," Mayor Mack added.
