The Longview High School Athletic Department and Lobo Football Booster Club celebrated NFL superstar Trent Williams by retiring his jersey during the Green and White Game May 16th at Lobo Stadium.

Athletic Director John King said Trent's on-field performance "is just a small part of the reason he is being recognized in this way."

"While he's certainly one of the premiere linemen in the NFL today, he's an even bigger hero to Longview in how he continues to support his school and invest in his community."

The #71 jersey number is only the second one retired at Longview High, the first being Bobby Taylor's #24 retired in 2008.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine getting my jersey retired, especially at a high school like this that's rich in tradition in football," Williams said. "To know that I've done enough in my career, and I feel like I've got a lot left to do, to have my jersey retired, it's a blessing."

After an extended autograph session, Williams joined his family in the press box to watch the scrimmage.

"Trent has never forgotten where he was born and raised from the very beginning," said King, who first coached Williams as a position coach when the future Pro Bowler was a freshman. "He's done a lot of things that haven't gotten recognition. Just a tremendous person and that's exactly why we're honoring him."
