Longview Independent School District has canceled the Senate Bill 1882 Public Charter Schools Community Meeting set for 6 p.m. Monday night at Johnston-McQueen Elementary, upon the recommendation of federal, state, and local authorities advising against group assemblies of more than 50 people.

In the meantime, the district Community Relations department is working on a plan for a possible "virtual" community meeting for the public at a future date.

"Once we've worked out all the details on our end, we will be glad to release that information through all our various means of communication throughout the community," said Dr. James Wilcox, Superintendent of Schools for Longview ISD.

All district facilities are closed to the students and non-essential staff through March 27. While the school district is closed, all regular school activities are canceled.
